Tehran, June 6, The Iran Project – Saudi Arabia seeks a tourist Hajj, while Iran is after a pure Islamic Hajj, a London-based Expert for Middle East Affairs says.
Referring to politicizing Hajj by Saudis, Basem al-Awadi a London-based expert for Middle East affairs said, “Iran’s desicion for not attending in this year’s Hajj rituals is a very measured and wise action for two reasons: firstly, although Saudi has imposed Wahhabism conditions on all Muslims around the world, Iran refused to bow to the Wahhabi-imposed conditions and secondly, Iran guaranteed the security of its pilgrims lives by not dispatching them to Hajj rituals this year.
He also criticized Saudi Arabia’s imposition of such conditions and rituals on all Muslims who making Hajj pilgrimage
To highlight holding a secure Hajj which ensures human’s dignity, the Middle East expert pointed out that Riyadh sovereignty over Mecca and Medina is not based on Islamic regulations, hailing Iran’s decision not to send its nationals to Saudi Arabia for pilgrimage during this year’s Hajj season.
Saudi Arabia will put pilgrims’ lives at risk by its unwise measures, he added.
Relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia plummeted after the kingdom’s execution of prominent Shia cleric Nimr al-Nimr in January.
Saudi Arabia cut diplomatic ties and halted flights to and from Iran on January 3 following attacks on vacant Saudi diplomatic premises in the Iranian capital and the city of Mashhad by angry people protesting Nimr’s execution.
This as more than 2,400 foreign pilgrims, including 464 Iranians, were killed after two large masses of pilgrims converged at a crossroads in Mina, near the holy Saudi city of Mecca, during the symbolic ceremony of the stoning of Satan in Jamarat on September 24, 2015.
