Sanouri: Palestinian prisoners threaten to escalate protests

JENIN, (PIC)– The liberated prisoner Mohammed Omar Al-Sanouri, nine years and a half in occupation jails, said that the Israeli prison service (IPS) has escalated its repression measures against prisoners during the holy month of Ramadan.

He told PIC reporter that strip searches and night raids have escalated during the month of Ramadan, leading prisoners to think of escalatory steps.

He pointed out that the captive movement has succeeded to end the solitary confinement for the majority of isolated prisoners, which is considered a victory for the prisoners’ will, but the rest of the agreement’s items are still not achieved.

Captive movement would set a program for escalatory steps till the end of Ramadan in case the IPS continues to stall in implementing the agreement’s items, he said, stressing the prisoners’ high morale.

Ending solitary confinement still remains the main prisoners’ demand in light of the Israeli stall to end Abu Sissi’s isolation despite the IPS pledge to do so, he said.

The prisoners also demand allowing all families to visit their next of kidn whether from from West Bank or Gaza, Sanouri said, stressing that prisoners’ visits are legitimate rights sanctioned by international laws and conventions.

He pointed out that the prisoners demand an end to arbitrary measures against their family during visits. He also pointed to the night raids by military units under flimsy pretexts.

The liberated prisoner stressed the importance of the popular and external support for the Palestinian prisoners in occupation jails.

Sounari was arrested in 2002 in a military operation and was sentenced to nine and a half years after being charged of being a member of Al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, and participating in armed operations against the occupation.
