San Francisco Mega-Walgreens Will Revolutionize The Way You Buy Things At Walgreens (PHOTOS)

If you’re like most San Franciscans, every time you go into a pharmacy to buy toilet paper or refill a prescription, you think to yourself, “I wish this place had a juice bar.”

Take heart, friends! All of your problems are about to be solved!

Coming sometime in 2013, the Union Square-adjacent Walgreens near the intersection of Powell and O’Farrell streets will be expanded into a “mega Walgreens,” complete with a bakery, custom cosmetics area, wine and hard alcohol, a produce department and, yes, a juice bar.

“[It’s going to be] unlike anything you’ve ever seen,” Walgreens District Manager Dave Devencenzi told the San Francisco Chronicle.

The renovation will completely transform the current location and expand it to include the second-floor space currently occupied by Lori’s Diner, which is moving down the street. The new store will stretch out to a full 18,00 square feet.

One thing you won’t be able to buy at the mega Walgreens: cigarettes. The city’s Board of Supervisors passed a law in 2008 outlawing tobacco sales at all San Francisco pharmacies.

With all this mega-sizing going on, we couldn’t help but wonder if other things in the city could be improved by making them insanely large.
