Samsung started a new print ad over the weekend — “It doesn’t take a genius” — that takes a direct shot at the iPhone 5, just announced last Wednesday and not yet even in consumers’ hands.
The company compares its hugely popular and recent Samsung Galaxy S III smartphone, considered the iPhone’s top competitor right now, to the new Apple device, and does a side-by-side list of features that leave the iPhone coming up short — at least in Samsung’s view.
The Galaxy S III has plenty to crow about in terms of success — it was recently announced that the third-generation phone sold more than 20 million units worldwide.
Meanwhile, pre-orders for the iPhone 5 have already surpassed more than 2 million. The phone is available on Friday.
This isn’t the first time Samsung’s gone after Apple in its ads. Last fall, with its then-new Samsung Galaxy S II out, the company ran a hilarious anti-iPhone TV ad, poking fun at Apple fanboys and fangirls, then followed up with similar TV ads (which had lesser reviews).
Samsung’s new print ad is below. What do you think? Effective hit? Or glancing blow?
