A man found dead in the Adelaide Hills had been attacked by a group of men on Monday, with his body lying undiscovered on the side of a road for a day and a half, police say.
The body was found on Wednesday morning by a walker at Kersbrook.
It was lying in a small ravine at the side of the Little South Para Road.
Detective Inspector Denise Gray says it’s believed the man was a 27-year-old from suburban Glenelg.
She says a witness to the attack has come forward but detectives want to speak with other people in the area at the time, particularly the driver of a small white Nissan Exa sports car.
Insp Gray said that while the body was not concealed, it was not particularly surprising that it took so long for it to be spotted.
“It wasn’t hidden but was down a slight ravine,” she said.
“I believe there are a lot of walkers in the Kersbrook area and it was a walker who found him.
“But I guess you don’t go out for a summer walk looking for a dead person.”
Insp Gray said police knew of no motive for the killing and it was unclear if it was just a bashing that went too far.
“Obviously it’s gone horribly wrong but I don’t know what the intention was,” she said.
“But if you assault someone badly enough, you kill them.”
Police closed the road for a second time on Thursday to conduct a search of the area.
Insp Gray said they were looking for anything connected to the case but nothing had been found so far.
A post-mortem examination was also being conducted to determine the cause of death.
Police have already confirmed the man had head injuries.
