A member of the Finks Motorcycle Club has been charged with murder following the discovery of a body in a shallow grave in bushland near Adelaide.
A post-mortem examination on Sunday is expected to confirm the body is that of convicted drug dealer Michael Varehov, police say.
A South Australia Police spokesman stopped short of confirming it’s the body of the 45-year-old who has been missing since Thursday night when he was allegedly assaulted and driven from a house at Beaumont, in Adelaide’s west.
“That’s probably the likely scenario,” the spokesman said of the body’s identity.
“We just wait until we hear and confirm that.”
Crime scene examiners remain on site in Kuitpo Forest, near Meadows, where a man’s body was found on Saturday night.
Police made the discovery after examining freshly disturbed soil along Gum View Road in the 5000 hectare forest .
The 51-year-old man was earlier charged with causing serious harm to Mr Varehov, but that charge was upgraded to murder Sunday.
The member has been refused police bail and is expected to appear in Adelaide Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Mr Varehov was jailed for six years in 1994 for trafficking heroin.
