SA driver charged after threatening police

A 21-year-old man involved in a road crash in Adelaide pulled a knife on police and then stole their unmarked patrol car, police say.

The man lost control of a red Nissan at suburban Norwood at about lunchtime on Friday.

When he was spoken to by two officers, police said he threatened them with a knife and drove off in their unmarked Commodore despite being hit with capsicum spray.

He was stopped again a short distance away, taken into custody and then to hospital.

A police spokesman said once released from hospital he will be taken to the city watchhouse and charged with aggravated assault, illegal use of a motor vehicle, driving dangerously to evade police, acts to endanger life and other traffic offences.
