Russian rights officials to meet Snowden

The pair invited to the Friday meeting are Sergei Nikitin, head of Amnesty International’s Russia office and Tatiana Lokshina, deputy head of the Russian office of Human Rights Watch.

Lokshina posted the emailed invitation on the social network Facebook, which read that Snowden wants to make “a brief statement and discussion regarding the next steps forward in my situation.”

Snowden did not directly address the asylum offers he has received from Venezuela, Bolivia and Nicaragua in the invitation.

However, he expressed gratitude for the offers and said, “I hope to travel to each of them.”

He also accused the United States of “an unlawful campaign … to deny my right to seek and enjoy this asylum.”

Snowden has also invited local officials of Transparency International and the United Nations refugee agency.

Snowden is technically outside of Russian territory since he is still in the transit zone at the airport.

He arrived to Moscow on June 23 from Hong Kong, where he fled before his leaks about American spying operations were published in media.

The former US intelligence contractor is wanted by Washington for leaking classified documents revealing America’s espionage activities worldwide.
