nsnbc : Russian journalist and anti-corruption activist Dmitry Popkov, was killed in Minusinsk. Popkov, who was the founder and editor-in-chief of the local newspaper Ton-M, was well-known for his work against corruption.
Dmitry Popkov was reportedly found dead in a traditional Russian bathhouse. Police discovered several gunshot wounds on the body of the 42-year-old journalist.
Popkov founded the local Ton-M newspaper after he was stripped of his position on the Minusinsk City Council in 2012.after a court found him guilty of beating a child.
Popkov has at all times maintained his innocence, claiming that the case was an excuse to remove him from politics. The Ton-M newspaper had previously been subject to police raids.
The publication is being published under the motto “We are breaking the silence” or we write what others omit or stay silent about.
Dmitry Popkov is the second Russian journalist who found an untimely death in 2017. On April 19, 2017 Nikolai Andrushchenko, a reporter for Novy Peterburg was killed. The 73-year-old veteran journalist passed away after being beaten by unknown attackers.
