Russia warns against pressuring Iran

Russia believes that attempts at whipping up tensions around the Iranian nuclear energy program and finding a pretext for further sanctions against Tehran are dangerous, Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Monday, Voice of Russia reported.

Lavrov made the remarks in a Monday meeting with visiting Israeli official Yaakov Amidror, and added that Moscow was opposed to using military force against Iran.

Lavrov stressed that problems facing regional countries must be resolved through national dialogue and without violence or outside interference.

The West accuses Iran of pursuing military objectives in its nuclear energy program, with Washington and Tel Aviv using this baseless allegation to threaten Iran with a military option.

Iran rejects the allegations, arguing that as a committed signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency, it has the right to use nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
