Today, the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has again urged the several groups of the so-called Syrian opposition to stick to the ceasefire in Syria and to stop all violence and attacks. The Foreign Minister of Russia also said that the Syrian opposition had the aim to “sabotage” the six-point plan of the UN/Arab League envoy Kofi Annan.
Sergei Lavrov stated that Moscow sees a serious violation of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Resolution and that this Resolution and six-point plan includes demands both for the Syrian government and Syria`s opposition groups to stop the violence and to implement the ceasefire.
During his talks with the Sri Lankan counterpart Gamini Lakshman Peiris in the Russian capital Moscow, the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has also said that “those who incite further violence… …should honestly say what they want.”
As the most know, Russia has two times vetoed the UN Resolutions against Syria at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) because Moscow called the first drafts a “pro-rebel” resolution, which is one-sided and misses demands on the rebel`s side. Russia is fully supporting the six-point peace plan, which has been proposed by the UN envoy Kofi Annan.
Already last month, the United Nations (UN) has approved the deployment of about 300 so-called Observers to Syria to monitor the implementation of the ceasefire. The truce in Syria was often violated since then. As often stated, the violations of the ceasefire are in general advantages for the armed opposition-forces in Syria.
A real truce in Syria would not help this armed face of the Syrian (external) opposition to really achieve their (one and only?) aim, the overthrow of the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and the Syrian government in the capital Damascus. Thus, a ceasefire, followed by real diplomatic talks between all sides is sure not the best solution for the armed gangs in Syria.
Not to mention that this also doesn`t sound like a good path for the goals of the so-called “Syrian National Council” (SNC), based in Istanbul, Turkey. This mainly Islamist council still favors the solution with the overthrow of the Syrian government and its president. One can easily call the “Syrian National Council” (SNC) a Islamists council because the majority of the members are Islamists, as it was already confirmed by opposition members and e.g. Reuters.
This time it is truly interesting that the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has clearly said that the Syrian opposition (forces and divided groups) should stop their violations of the ceasefire in Syria and stick to the complete implementation of the six-point plan by the UN-Arab League envoy Kofi Annan.
The Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov has not only warned the Syrian opposition groups to stop their violations of the peace plan and truce in Syria, but also warned that the conflict in Syria could spread to the neighboring state Lebanon.
Some would say that the conflict in Syria has already slipped into Lebanon (North Lebanon). For example the kidnapping of 13 Lebanese Shia pilgrims near the northern Syrian city of Aleppo (Halab).
These Lebanese pilgrims were kidnapped by the so-called armed “Free Syrian Army” (FSA) which has probably in mind that they can use these hostages to free some prisoners in Syria. This could have been the plan behind this kidnapping of the 13 Lebanese pilgrims near the Syrian city Aleppo.
The Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov warned, that this is a “real threat that the conflict will spill over into Lebanon”. Lavrov said in addition, that taking into consideration the history, religions and ethnic make-up of the people of Lebanon, by which the Lebanese government is built, the “things could end very badly”.
