Peskov said such “a statement is not true” though he attributed the issue to “difficulties of translation,” Interfax reported.
The announcement came ahead of a meeting between Putin and Cameron in London that is believed to focus on Russia’s veto of three US-backed resolutions against Syria.
In the latest of the vetoes two weeks ago, Russia and China rejected a resolution that called for application of article seven of the UN Charter that allows foreign military intervention against the Middle Eastern country.
Cameron called the veto “inexcusable and indefensible” claiming the resolution aimed to end violence in Syria.
However, He is now saying the Thursday meeting with Putin will focus on mutual trade more than anything else as they visit Olympic venues for the August 2 judo matches.
“We will be at the judo, so it may be a bit off-putting, but nonetheless, I know my major priority is to get those trade deals to get that investment and not to concentrate on what’s happening on the mat,” Cameron said.
