Rupert Murdoch has not always been Twitter’s favourite public figure.
So users of the social networking site were surprised to find the 80-year-old media tycoon among their ranks as the new year began.
And @rupertmurdoch – who already has nearly 40,000 followers – has provided plenty to interest an expectant world, tweeting about his holidays, films and politics.

His arrival on the popular website was a particular shock following a Twitter campaign during last year’s hacking scandal to have his paper News of the World closed down.
Mr Murdoch informed users that his new year’s resolutions were to ‘try to maintain humility and always curiosity. And of course diet!’
His tweets have been startlingly revealing, with the octogenarian writing about his admiration for people ranging from film star George Clooney to Scotland’s First Minister Alex Salmond.
Murdoch has so far used Twitter to offer political opinions, wish everyone a Happy New Year, and plug his companies
The media mogul admitted that his
presence on the website was a controversial decision, tweeting: ‘I’m
getting killed for fooling around here and friends frightened what I may
really say!’
But the reaction to Mr Murdoch’s appearance on the site has been mixed.
Fellow celebrity user John Prescott drew attention to the chequered past of the News Corporation chairman by tweeting: ‘Welcome to Twitter… @rupertmurdoch. I’ve left you a Happy New Year message on my voicemail!’

MURDOCH’S MESSAGES
After opening his account on December 31, Murdoch shared his New Year’s resolutions with his followers:
‘My resolutions, try to maintain humility and always curiosity. And of course diet!’
He has also explored the medium as a political forum:
‘Good to see santorum surging in Iowa. Regardless of policies, all debates showed principles, consistency and humility like no other.’
‘Great to see Mike Bloomberg getting some rewards for being New York’s best mayor in memory!’
And of course has seen the chance of a plug or two for his own companies:
‘Great oped in WSJ today on Ron Paul. Huge appeal of libertarian message.’
‘Saw Fox film Descendants. Thank God, one to be proud of. Star Geo Clooney deserves Oscar, maybe film too.’
‘I LOVE the film “we bought a zoo”, a great family movie. Very proud of fox team who made this great film.’
Many are suspicious that the move is a
PR stunt, particularly as many of his tweets have mentioned his company,
with two of his tweets alluding to recent Fox offerings, The
Descendants and We Bought a Zoo – ‘a great family film’.
Later he tweeted: ‘Happy 2012. May itbe
better than all experts predict. Has to be! Must change everything to
create jobs for all, especiallyyoung.’
Tellingly, his very first tweet on December 31 read: ‘Have just. Read The Rational Optimist. Great book.’
He may have been inspired by wife Wendi Deng, who is also on Twitter as @Wendi_Deng.
She tweeted: ‘hello everyone. trying out twitter again now @rupertmurdoch is on it. showing him great way 2 communicate with people.’
Her tweets have been equally open, with the 43-year-old describing her husband as ‘adorable’ and ‘cheeky’ – and even referring to him as ‘sweets.’
She has had to do some damage control for her headstrong partner however, writing at one point that she was ‘explaining to @rupertmurdoch about being careful with use of humour on line.’
One of his tweets, later deleted, read: ‘Maybe Brits have too many holidays for broke country!’
Moments after he wrote it the unverified account that appears to be his wife, tweeted: ‘RUPERT!!! delete tweet!’
And Miss Deng also told users who tried to direct her attention towards ‘the man with the pie’ who attacked her husband that she did not ‘want to know more’.

Bragg says that some form of writing is better than nothing
Youngsters may be boosting their
literacy by using social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook,
according to Melvyn Bragg.
Despite
many thinking that using such forums encourages children to use a
‘dumbed down’ form of language, the presenter believes that any form of
written communication can be beneficial.
Lord
Bragg, who has recently put together a radio series called The Written
World, said Twitter and Facebook helped bring writing to the masses.
‘People
who rarely wrote anything are writing more than ever before,’ he said.
‘We think [social networking] has supplanted letter writing, but up
comes new technology and the written word is one of the things that uses
it.’
Bragg’s radio series traces the history of the written word from cuneiform writing of 5,000 years ago to the invention of newsprint.

Standard PR project – to endear him to the nation – so BSB can be bought – BSB is a huge cash generating machine and hence the need to continue to show humility – reading through the comments – it seems PR really does work for the rich famous and despots so their industry is safe – people need to being sheep it is how the MPs take advantage on expenses – doctors and consultants take hundreds of thousands in salaries and not pay same amount of tax as the rest of us as they are contractors and not employees – it is why the bankers are still laughing – it is how the public sector robs the tax payer for their lavish pensions – how the ich pay nothing in tax as they are off shore in Monaco – it is how companies like Barclays have many legal entities to reduce their tax – who pays for everything then? The common honest people of this nation on PAYE

It’s scary that some people make trivial comments about such an arguably dangerous man. Becoming such an adorable bumbling old man has really dropped an invisibility cloak over his evil ruthlessness hasn’t it? Well done Rupert, you’re going to die without ever having to take the wrap for the Immense damage you have done to our society.
