Foreign Minister Kevin Rudd has wished Prime Minister Julia Gillard happy birthday, not that it seems the courtesy was reciprocated.
Mr Rudd was in New York for UN meetings for his birthday last Wednesday, but found time on the sidelines to step out with his wife, Therese Rein, to to dine at the top French restaurant Balthazar in SoHo.
When asked on Thursday if Ms Gillard wished him a happy 54th birthday, he replied he couldn’t remember.
“I went out with Therese and we had a fantastic dinner together … I’m sure the PM had other things on her mind back here but I wish her a very happy birthday,” he told reporters in Brisbane.
Nevertheless, Mr Rudd passed on his well wishes to Ms Gillard, who turned 50 on Thursday.
“Turning the big 5-0 is a big milestone in anyone’s life and I wish her a happy birthday,” he said.
