RSPCA seeks casino possum killer

Disturbing security footage of a possum being grabbed by its tail and slammed to its death on a casino floor could land a man in jail.

The RSPCA wants to interview the man who allegedly killed the possum on the VIP balcony of Townsville’s Jupiter’s Casino last week.

The incident was reportedly told to police in the early hours of Friday, December 23.

RSPCA inspector Frank Bebernitz said the casino’s CCTV footage of the incident was “fairly graphic”.

“We’re following a couple of different lines of inquiry to identify the suspect involved and also potential witnesses,” he said.

If enough evidence is gathered a recommendation will be made to senior RSPCA management to prosecute the man for animal cruelty, he said.

The maximum penalty is an $100,000 fine or two years in prison.
