LONDON — A Western energy major has temporarily shut down its offices in Egypt.
Royal Dutch Shell, the leading energy firm in Europe, said it temporarily closed its offices in Egypt.
Shell also said it restricted travel by its executives amid the Islamist revolt.
“To ensure the safety and security of our staff, Shell offices in Egypt are closed for business today and into the weekend and business travel into the country has been restricted. We will continue to monitor the situation in Egypt,” Shell said on Aug. 15.
Shell, which has been exploring in the Western Desert, did not detail its presence in Egypt.
Other Western energy majors, including British Petroleum, have not followed Shell’s move.
