Royal assent for cyberbullying program

PRINCESS Mary of Denmark says she is inspired by a national cyberbullying program that is teaching Australian children to be safe and responsible online.

The princess has met with key political and business leaders, including Prime Minister Julia Gillard, at an Alannah and Madeline Foundation lunch in Melbourne’s north.

Princess Mary is the international patron of the foundation, a national charity protecting children from violence.

The foundation launched this year the eSmart program, with the aim of rolling it out to all Australian schools.

Princess Mary said the foundation’s vision was to introduce the program into community libraries and centres, ensuring all children had access to it.

She said, ”eSmart is a world-leading system and one which Australia should be extremely proud of”, and added she would take it back to Denmark and show it to activists there.

Dozens of people braved persistent rain to catch a glimpse of the princess as she arrived with her husband Prince Frederik at the Hume Global Learning Centre in Melbourne’s north.
