Roxon at centre of alleged kill threat

A Victorian man has appeared in court charged with threatening to kill federal Attorney-General Nicola Roxon.

Mark Steven Andrew, 52, is also charged with threatening to cause serious harm to Ms Roxon.

He is further charged with threatening to kill another MP, state Labor member Jill Hennessy.

Andrew was arrested in April this year by the Australian Federal Police and was bailed several days later.

The offences were allegedly committed in Altona on April 22.

The charge of threatening to cause serious harm to Ms Roxon alleges that he was reckless to the risk of causing her to fear the threat would be carried out.

Andrew appeared today in Melbourne Magistrates Court where his father gave evidence that he had money to fund his son’s case.

Magistrate Charlie Rozencwajg described the case as “straight-forward”. He told prosecutor Simone Tatas and defence lawyer Sarah Westwood that instructions from Andrew should be obtained earlier whether the charges were contested or resolved.

Andrew was rebailed to appear again on July 23.
