After dropping their first set against the Swiss doubles team of Roger Federer – the world’s number one player – and Stanislas Wawrinka, Jonathan Erlich and Andy Ram of Israel advanced out of the second round of Olympic play on Tuesday.
Federer and Wawrinka won the first set easily 1-6, but Erlich and Ram charged back, winning the next two sets, 7-6 (5), 6-3.
The Israeli team will face Robert and Michael Bryan of the United States in the next round of Olympic play.
“The Bryan brothers are opponents on a very high level, but we beat them in the past and I believe we will do it again,” said Ram after Wednesday’s match.
