Roadside bomb kills 7 in NW Pakistan

The incident took place on Tuesday when a passenger van, carrying several people to lower Orakzai tribal region hit a remote controlled bomb.

Security forces cordoned off the area after the incident and shifted the injured people to a local hospital.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, although several recent bomb attacks have been blamed on pro-Taliban militants.

Orakzai tribal region, located near the Afghan border, is one of the strongholds of Taliban militants.

Thousands of Pakistanis have lost their lives in bombings and other militant attacks since 2001, when Pakistan joined an alliance with the United States in the so-called war against terrorism.

Since late 2009, there has been a surge in militant attacks in Pakistan, where thousands have been displaced in the aftermath of the militancy sweeping across the country.
