Roadside bomb injures 5 Pakistani police

Local officials told Press TV that the incident took place in the Bata Tal Bazaar area near the provincial capital Peshawar, situated 150 kilometers (93miles) west of Pakistani capital Islamabad, on Thursday as a police patrol car stumbled on a buried explosive device.

The police vehicle was badly damaged in the attack. The wounded policemen were shifted to a local hospital, where they are receiving medical treatment for their injuries.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the act of terror.

Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants and associated groups have carried out numerous attacks on security forces as well as civilians and managed to spread their influence in various regions of the country despite frequent offensives by Pakistani government against them.

Over 35,000 Pakistanis have lost their lives in bombings and other militant attacks since 2001 when Pakistan entered an alliance with the US on the so-called war against terrorism, according to local media.

Thousands more have been displaced by the wave of violence and militancy sweeping across the country.
