Roadside bomb injures 11 in Afghanistan

The bomb went off Thursday in Jalalabad city, the capital of the Nangarhar province, local officials report.

Provincial governor spokesman Ahmad Zia Abdulzai said the blast wounded four civilians and seven policemen while one of the victims, a child, remains in critical condition.

The attack is the third bomb blast in the province over the past week.

Meanwhile, pro-Taliban militants attacked a police post in the country’s southern province of Uruzgan, leaving at least nine Afghan officers dead.

Since the US-led invasion of Afghanistan in 2001, bombings and militant attacks in the war-ravaged country have left thousands of civilians dead, including women and children, as well as many Afghan forces.
