Rifts intensifying in Israeli regime

Speaking during the 2012 Weinberg Founders Conference at the Washington Institute in Virginia on Sunday, Yadlin said appointed officials need to be “brave in presenting their recommendation to leadership in closed rooms.”

“But whenever you retire, you should impose on yourself at least a year of not speaking at all.”

On April 27, former Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) director Yuval Diskin said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak were not fit to stand at helm of the Israeli regime.

“I will tell you things that might be harsh. I cannot trust Netanyahu and Barak at the wheel in confronting Iran. They are infected with messianic feelings over Iran,” Diskin said.

Later, former Mossad chief Meir Dagan expressed support for Diskin, saying he was stating his “internal truth.”

Yadlin said a potential Israeli military strike against Iran would prompt a limited and calculated response from the Islamic Republic.

Yadlin had previously said he favored exhausting all other options before attacking Iran’s nuclear energy facilities but stressed that a “nuclear Iran is more dangerous than attacking Iran.”

“If they can’t be contained when they don’t have nuclear weapon, how can they be contained when they do?” Yadlin had said.

Also present at the Sunday panel was Dennis Ross, who formerly served as US President Barack Obama’s senior Iran adviser. Ross expressed doubt over the seriousness of the Israeli intentions for an attack on Iran.

“With Osirak (in Iraq) in 1981, did Israel talk about it? Or in 2007 about the Syrian reactor? Why are the Israelis talking now? To create motivation for the rest of the world,” Ross said, adding that Israeli leaders have been making public statements on Iran “in case the diplomacy fails, no one will be surprised.”
