A retired cop has restrained a man who allegedly kneed and punched his ex-girlfriend in a hotel toilet cubicle on the NSW Central Coast.
The 28-year-old man allegedly assaulted his former girlfriend while at a house in Gosford at around 5pm (AEST) on Saturday, police said.
The man and woman then drove into town, at which time the woman ran into a tavern and hid in the toilets.
Police allege her ex-partner then followed her into the toilets and forced open the cubicle door before kneeing and punching her.
The retired Superintendent went to investigate after hearing a commotion, before wrestling with the man and restraining him.
The 20-year-old woman was taken to Gosford Hospital where she received treatment for a serious laceration above her left eye.
The man was arrested and charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, two counts of common assault and refused bail.
He appeared in Gosford Local Court on Sunday.
The man was remanded in custody to re-appear in court on Monday.
