‘Regional states can ensure PG security’

“There’s no need for the presence of foreign forces to provide security in the region,” said Commander of the Iranian Army’s Ground Forces Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan, adding that certain trans-regional forces seek to create rifts among regional nations in a bid to justify their presence in the region, IRNA reported on Sunday.

The countries of the region, nevertheless, are fully aware of such plots, and there is no doubt that they will not collaborate with arrogant powers to this end, the army commander pointed out.

He reiterated that the regional states have realized that they are capable of maintaining security in the region without dependence on foreign forces.

Brig. Gen. Pourdastan noted that the Persian Gulf is an international waterway, and there are many countries along it, with Iran having the longest coastline.

He also made reference to the historical background and geographical documents of the name Persian Gulf saying that such documents cast light on the reality that the waterway has always been referred to as the “Persian Gulf.”
