Railway track blown up in SW Pakistan

Security officials told Press TV that the suspected militants blew up the railway with explosives in Saryab area of Quetta city late on Sunday.

A portion of the railway was damaged due to the explosion, they said, adding that no human loss was reported.

The Sunday attack came five days after two people lost their lives when a bomb exploded near a luxury train waiting lounge at the main railway station in the eastern Pakistani city of Lahore.

Militants have attacked dozens of gas pipelines, electricity towers and railways tracks in different parts of southwestern Balochistan province in the past months.

Meanwhile, one person was killed and several others were injured in two separate bomb attacks in northwestern Pakistan near Afghan border.

A remote-controlled bomb went off in a car parked inside an auto workshop in Jamrud Tehsil of Khyber Agency Sunday evening, killing one and injuring 15 others, officials said.

Several vehicles were also damaged in the blast, they added.

Separately, at least five people including three women were injured in a hand grenade attack on a house in Budhbhir area in the outskirts of port city of Peshawar.

Over 35,000 Pakistanis have lost their lives in bombings and other militant attacks since 2001 when Pakistan entered an alliance with the US on the so-called war against terrorism, according to local media.

Since late 2009, there has been a surge in militant attacks in Pakistan.

Thousands more have been displaced by the wave of violence and militancy sweeping across the country.
