Will Smith and his wife Jada as well as Spike Lee announced they won’t participate. Good riddance.

Actress Jada Pinkett Smith became the latest celebrity to weigh in on the renewed #OscarsSoWhite controversy over the weekend, when she took to social media to ask if minorities should boycott the awards ceremony after the Academy nominated exclusively white actors in top categories for a second straight year, Breitbart reports.

“At the Oscars… people of color are always welcomed to give out awards… even entertain, but we are rarely recognized for our artistic achievements,” the wife of actor Will Smith wrote on Twitter Saturday. “Should people of color refrain from participating all together?”

The #OscarsSoWhite controversy first emerged last year, when many critics blasted the Academy for failing to recognize Selma director Ava DuVernay and actor David Oyelowo for awards in their respective categories. After this year’s nominations were announced Thursday, the controversy was renewed again when critics pointed out that films like Straight Outta Compton, Concussion, Beasts of No Nation, and Creed had failed to secure any nominations for their minority cast and crew members.

Chris Rock referred to the awards ceremony as “the white BET Awards.”

As we previously reported, Al Sharpton took to Twitter with “All white Oscar nominations are another example of the lack of diversity in Hollywood. Like the Rocky Mts. The higher u climb the whiter.”

Shut up and pay your taxes you washed up, racist fool.

Spike Lee weighed in on Instagram saying, “How is it possible for the second consecutive year all 20 contenders under the actor category are white?” he wrote. “And let’s not even get into the other branches. 40 white actors in two years and no flava at all. We can’t act?! WTF!! It’s no coincidence I’m writing this as we celebrate the 30th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday.”

Let’s take a moment to look at the big picture. Why is it acceptable to create TV shows, channels and awards for blacks, BUT TV shows, channels and awards for white people are considered by some to be racist and subjected to protests? The new show, Black-ish is the most black-centric racist thing I have seen since BET. Black Starz, the Black Entertainment Awards, and the list goes on! Why is this okay while things about only white people are exclusionary and “racist”?

Honestly, academy members vote on these awards . Black films and stars have won many Oscars over the years. I’ve seen several of the films and liked them, and their black stars. I also liked films with white stars. Maybe this year the films were not as good or as successful as those where the stars were nominated. Maybe black actors should consider starring in films about something other than radical black political issues aimed at inciting thugs to riot for a start.

And perhaps they should brush up on their acting skills while they are at it.

Get over it people, the racial division will never stop until we stop making everything about race!
