Queen’s tribute to fallen heroes

Commanding officer of the RMC, Lieutenant-Colonel Jason Hedges, accepted the colours for the college, promising to maintain them ”with honour, fierce pride and steadfast loyalty”. The new colours were draped over an ”altar” made from assembled drums provided by the RMC band. The colours were consecrated and then presented to the Queen, who touched them. Shortly before the Queen’s arrival, the old colours were trooped for the last time and marched off the parade ground.

The first set of colours given to the RMC were presented in May 1927 by the Duke of York – later to be King George VI – when he visited Australia for the opening of Old Parliament House. The Queen presented replacement colours in 1954, 1970 and 1988.
