THE Queen will open the new Royal Children’s Hospital when she visits Melbourne this month.
Buckingham Palace confirmed last night that the Queen, 85, and the Duke of Edinburgh, 90, would be in the city on October 26.
The Queen will open the new hospital, of which she is patron, and also visit the National Gallery of Victoria’s Ian Potter Centre in Federation Square.
During their day trip to Melbourne, the Queen and Prince Philip will walk through the square and catch a tram.
The 10-day visit to Australia will begin in Canberra on October 19.
The Queen will meet Julia Gillard and Tony Abbott ahead of a party held in her honour at Parliament House on October 21.
“The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh are very much looking forward to their forthcoming trip,” a palace spokeswoman said.
They will also visit Brisbane and Perth.
On October 28, the Queen will open the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Perth and attend a banquet in her honour.
The royal couple will spend their last day in Australia celebrating with a Big Aussie BBQ in Perth before returning to England on October 29.
