The lockdown of a Queensland resort has been lifted, following the ending of a siege that lasted more than seven hours.
Officers locked down Paradise Island resort at Surfers Paradise around lunchtime on Thursday, after receiving reports an armed man was inside.
A police spokeswoman said the 24-year-old was taken into custody about 8pm (AEST) and was assisting with their investigations. Charges were yet to be laid.
About the same time an “emergency situation”, which saw the resort evacuated and locked down, was also lifted.
Earlier in the day, television news bulletins showed images of the man inside one of the resorts’ units holding up a jacket featuring a Bandidos motorcycle club patch.
A police spokeswoman since confirmed the man had outlaw motorcycle links, and a woman had earlier been with him in a unit but had escaped.
A police spokesman said it was unlikely charges would be laid before Friday morning.
