A Gold Coast man charged with the rape, torture and murder of his de facto partner’s baby boy will stay behind bars.
The 32-year-old, who cannot be named, did not appear in Southport Magistrates Court on Monday.
He was arrested at his Pacific Pines home on Sunday and charged with six offences against the toddler between January and April 2011.
The charges follow an investigation by Townsville police child protection officers after the toddler’s death in April 16 last year.
Magistrate Brian Kilmartin remanded the man in custody to appear in Townsville Magistrates Court on April 12 on charges of murder, rape, torture, grievous bodily harm, common assault and assault causing bodily harm.
