Two senior officers from Queensland Health have been stood down and referred to the Crime and Misconduct Commission amid allegations of misconduct.
Queensland Health Director-General Tony O’Connell issued a brief statement late on Monday saying the officers had been suspended over allegations of official misconduct but did not say what the misconduct was.
A Queensland Health spokeswoman said the pair were senior executives in the corporate office and said it was possible the investigation may relate to the fraudulent use of funds.
She told AAP the department could not reveal details, because the investigation was in its early stages.
The suspensions were not linked to the case of Hohepa Morehu-Barlow, who is accused of fleecing the department of $16 million, she said.
The officers have been suspended on full pay pending the outcome of the investigation.
“I take these matters very seriously and have referred this issue to the Crime and Misconduct Commission for thorough investigation,” Dr O’Connell said in his statement.
