Opposition Leader Annastacia Palaszczuk on Wednesday released the 18 documents, which are hundreds of pages long, after intense political pressure over the last few months.
The documents say the Bligh Labor government had a strong legal case to sue IBM for installing the failed system but preferred to negotiate a settlement, amid concerns about whether the government’s own processes would withstand scrutiny.
Health Minister Lawrence Springborg says the state’s solicitor general will examine the documents to advise the new government on what action to take, including whether an inquiry is needed.
“It is the start of the public campaign to properly understand what happened and the fight, however late, for redress will continue,” Mr Springborg told parliament.
“Our goal is to recover any worthwhile part of those lost funds.”
Mr Springborg called on Ms Palaszczuk to apologise for the fiasco.
The failed roll-out of the system left workers incorrectly paid and it’s still not fixed.
The current Liberal National Party (LNP) government has said the ultimate cost to taxpayers will be about $1.2 billion by 2017 and could climb higher than that.
The government wants Ms Palaszczuk to reveal whether previous Labor ministers had pressured her into releasing the documents to avoid an inquiry.
Premier Campbell Newman asked her to rule out whether she or any of her staffers had contact with former ministers before “this u-turn”.
He said the former information technology minister Robert Schwarten’s media adviser was Lindsay Marshall – who now works for Ms Palaszczuk.
“Lindsay Marshall is the go-between for this tawdry affair,” Mr Newman said.
He said the government was examining the documents but there still might be a need for an inquiry into the matter.
