Qld father charged with baby son’s murder

A Queensland father of five has been accused of drowning his baby boy after plunging off a bridge into the Logan River, south of Brisbane.

The 38-year-old Eagleby dad surfaced but his six-month-old son did not.

Police say they received a triple-0 call at about 6.45pm (AEST) on Saturday, allegedly from the man, claiming a man and a baby had fallen into the river at the Logan River Parklands at Beenleigh.

State Emergency Service (SES) swiftwater rescue crews, police divers and other emergency workers searched for the baby throughout the night to no avail.

They resumed the search on Sunday morning and discovered the baby’s body.

The Courier-Mail reported that the body was found on the river bank more than a kilometre from the pedestrian bridge from which his father had allegedly jumped.

The pair fell up to 15 metres before hitting the water, police said.

The man has been charged with his son’s murder and is scheduled to appear in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Monday.

The boy’s mother turned to Twitter to express her grief, saying “I was so blessed to meet him. I love you little one go with God.”

Network Seven says the family described themselves as being spiritual nomads who live in a shed in the back of an Eagleby property when they’re not travelling in their converted truck.
