Qatari Emir: violations in Syria and Palestine are a disgrace to humanity

Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al ThaniThe Qatari Emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, has stated that there are countries that are still merely expressing verbal condemnation of the genocide being committed by the regime in Syria.

He called on the international community to take responsibility and support the Palestinian and Syrian people.

During his opening speech at the fifth annual Global Forum of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations held in the Austrian capital of Vienna, the Qatari Emir described the violations occurring in Syria and Palestine as a disgrace upon humanity and the international community.

Furthermore, he said that major world powers are still taking an unfair stance that prevents the achievement of a solution to the last case colonisation in history – the Palestinian case. This case is escalating and is a constant source of concern and a cause for people to believe that discrimination is still prevalent in the international community.

He added that lately, we have been witnessing a more supportive stance from central countries against the genocide being carried out by the Syrian regime that has lost its legitimacy. We have also seen other countries doing nothing by verbally condemning it.

Moreover, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani stressed the importance of spreading the values of justice, equality and international law, and that double standards in international relations need to be eliminated. He also called for renounciation of extremism and for all destructive trends to be addressed emphasising that the media has a humanitarian message and responsibility.
