Qatari emir owns UK’s priciest mansion

Qatar’s royal family bought their 185-year-old mansion on Dudley House in London’s Park Lane for £37.4 million in 2006. However, the mansion is now worth £200 million after Al Thani spent millions of pounds on renovating the property, reported The Daily Mail.

The ambitious renovation will give the mansion 17 bedrooms and 14 reception rooms. The newspaper said e property expert has estimated the price of the 19th-century property at £250 million.

Furthermore, earlier this year in March, The Daily Mail reported that Qatar owned the Shard, a pyramid-shaped skyscraper in London which is the European Union’s tallest building, and the Olympic Village.

Moreover, the Qatar Investment Authority became Barclays’ biggest shareholder when the British bank was in deep trouble during the banking turmoil in 2008. In 2009, it was even revealed that the British government could not inject money into Barclays without the Qatari state receiving compensation at the value the shares had commanded in 2008.

Reports in March also told of another tiny Persian Gulf country, the United Arab Emirates, buying up to a third of the British government’s stake in the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS).
