A mental health report has been ordered for a boy who raped a woman at knife-point in Hobart when he was 14 years old.
The youth, now 15, has pleaded guilty to the daylight rape of a 23-year-old woman on a popular walking track on January 30.
Justice Shan Tennent said the report was needed before sentencing because it was likely the boy needed psychiatric help.
He has been remanded in custody to reappear in September.
In the Supreme Court on Thursday, Crown Prosecutor Jackie Hartnett argued the boy should be sentenced as an adult, rather than under the Youth Justice Act, which would allow a jail term that reflected the seriousness of the crime.
She said the attack had been prolonged, degrading, had involved weapons and threats of violence, and had occurred in a public place.
Ms Hartnett said the impact on the victim was likely to be significant.
