Protest held in solidarity with Gitmos

The campaigners staged a murder scene outside the US embassy in the British capital on Saturday May 18, showing how US forces resort to force-feeding some of the striking captives via tubes through their nose.

A group of activists wearing orange jumpsuits and black hoods, like those used on detainees at Guantanamo prison, gathered outside the US diplomatic mission to call for the immediate closure of the controversial jail.

They were carrying banners reading, “11 years where’s the justice?” and “Stop the torture”.

“There has been no attempt whatsoever to address the issues raised by the hunger strike or to bring this desperate protest to an end, which inches ever closer to a fatality,” said Aisha Maniar, an organizer from the London Guantanamo Campaign.

About 130 prisoners have been on hunger strike at the Guantanamo Bay prison for 103 days in protest against their decade-plus imprisonment without charge or trial as well as the horrible conditions at the jail.

The detainee’s refusal to eat came as an effort to protest the searching of their personal belongings by prison guards as well as their indefinite detention without any charges or the right to a trial.

Earlier in February, activists staged a demonstration in London, using the eleventh anniversary of British citizen Shaker Aamer’s incarceration without trial in the US military prison to renew their demands for his release.
