Press TV is back on SES Astra platform

The court said the earlier decision by BLM to take Press TV off the European platform had been “illegal.”

Press TV’s legal team in Germany has announced that it is also claiming compensation.

BLM removed the news channel from the SES Astra Platform some two months ago. It said the channel did not have the license to broadcast from Germany.

Press TV rejected the claim and filed a lawsuit against the media regulatory body. In its complaint, the news television called the BLM decision politically motivated and said that it was made under pressure from the German government.

Press TV says the ban was meant to stop the channel’s extensive coverage of Germany’s social and economic issues.

The channel has also covered the growing public anger in Germany over that country’s military involvement in Afghanistan.

Press TV has also covered xenophobic violence in Germany. One example was the case of Marwa el-Sherbini, the Muslim women who was murdered over her Islamic headscarf back in 2009.

The news channel interviewed the Sherbini family and revealed their story to the world, prompting anger from German officials, who had reportedly ordered a media blackout on the highly sensitive case.
