President Rouhani urges better conditions for women sports

Tehran, March 15, IRNA – President Hassan Rouhani on Tuesday urged for improved conditions for women sports in the country.

In a ceremony to pay tribute Iranian athletes who had won titles and medals during the previous Iranian year (ended March 20, 2015), he said he has always highlighted the importance of improving conditions for women athletes.

Outlining religious teachings which advocate athletic activities for all walks of life, he said sports elevates the nation’s honor at an international level and make the name of the country heard on a global scale.

He went on to stress that the male and female athletes in Iran should endeavor to upgrade their activities to international competitions.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the president noted that Iran managed to enter the global nuclear market this year after the removal of sanctions by successfully selling UF6 and heavy water as well as purchasing yellow cake.

Prior to the current Iranian year, no country cooperated with Iran in nuclear areas as it was regarded as illegal while now, based on the United Nations Security Council resolution, all parties are urged to cooperate with Iran.

In the past years Iran’s monetary, banking and insurance transactions with the world were non-existent and the country suffered from all kinds of sanctions including restrictions on oil exports and petrochemical items, manufacturing vehicles, purchasing aircraft, shipping, transportation and many other areas.

President Rouhani said it was a matter of pride for the nation to see its marine transportation conditions improve by 25 percent compared with the pre-JCPOA era.

He added that his administration was also proud of managing affairs in the country while the oil price was at an unprecedented low.

President Rouhani said point-to-point inflation rate stood at 12 percent in the past 12 months although it was a tough year for the country.
