President Obama ‘Shocked and Saddened’ Over ‘Dark Knight’ Shooting [UPDATED]

President Obama is “shocked and saddened” by the shooting at the Batman movie premiere in Aurora, Colo., in which 12 people were killed and 38 wounded.

“We will do everything that we can to support the people of Aurora in this extraordinarily difficult time. As we do when confronted by moments of darkness and challenge, we must now come together as one American family,” said Obama in a statement.

“All of us must have the people of Aurora in our thoughts and prayers as they confront the loss of family, friends, and neighbors, and we must stand together with them in the challenging hours and days to come,” said Obama, promising he would do everything in his power to bring those responsible to justice.

“We are committed to bringing whoever was responsible to justice, ensuring the safety of our people, and caring for those who have been wounded,” said Obama.

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney also gave his condolences to the victims.

“Ann and I are deeply saddened by the news of the senseless violence that took the lives of 15 people in Colorado and injured dozens more,” Romney said in a statement. “We are praying for the families and loved ones of the victims during this time of deep shock and immense grief. We expect that the person responsible for this terrible crime will be quickly brought to justice.”

The scene of the shooting has been described as “chaos” by witnesses, as the gunman burst into the cinema and started shooting at people, killing 12 people, and wounding another 38.

One suspect is in custody, but the police haven’t released any details about his identity.
