CWU said over 2,000 of its members took part in the Saturday 24-hour industrial action that showed a “solid” support for organized measures to force the government to heed their concerns.
The outraged Post Office staff are asking for fair treatment and job security while opposing plans to slash 20 percent of the crown network.
CWU is also angry at the Post Office Ltd move to “brine staff” with lump sum payments if they sign up to the plans that will lead to the closures.
“Our members have sent a strong message to Post Office management by solidly supporting strike action against closures, job losses, and pay,” CWU national official Andy Furey said.
“We hope the Post Office listens to the concerns of their staff. They can avoid further disruption by agreeing to negotiations to resolve this dispute,” he added.
