Portugal hails Iran cooperation with IAEA

“Tehran has opened a new chapter of constructive and serious cooperation with the IAEA, which is praiseworthy,” IRNA quoted Portas as saying on Tuesday.

Portas expressed optimism that the negotiations between Iran and the P5+1 will bring about the desired progress for both sides and help resolve the persisting issues.

On February 21, a high-ranking IAEA delegation arrived in the Iranian capital for negotiations on the further Iran-IAEA cooperation. The visit was preceded by another trip to Iran by a team of IAEA inspectors on January 29.

On February 26, Iran’s Ambassador to the IAEA Ali Asghar Soltanieh said Iran would agree to a request by the agency to visit the country’s Parchin site only if a framework that addresses the concerns of both parties is established.

The United States, the Israeli regime and some of their allies have repeatedly accused Tehran of pursuing military objectives in its nuclear program.

Iran has rejected the allegations, arguing that as a committed signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and a member of the IAEA, it has the right to use nuclear technology for peaceful use.

Meanwhile, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei stated last month that the Iranian nation has never sought and will never seek nuclear weapons and has the capacity to break the supremacy of powers that rely on nuclear arms.
