Poroshenko’s UN Rant
by Stephen Lendman
US-anointed Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko is a caricature of a leader – a so-called chocolate king billionaire/oligarch, illegitimately installed in a farcical election.
He’s waged naked aggression on Donbass throughout his tenure, imposed an economic blockade, insists scheduled democratic parliamentary elections be cancelled, failed in his attempt to isolate Crimea, and blames Russia and Donbass freedom fighters for his high crimes.
His General Assembly rant bashed Russia, repeating tired old baseless accusations of “aggression.”
Ludicrously saying “Ukrainian territories occupied by Russia in the Crimea and Donbas region constitute approximately 44,000 square kilometers (16,989 square miles).”
“A million Ukrainians have found themselves under the occupation. The goal of this war is to force the Ukrainian people to give up their sovereign choice (to) build a free, democratic, prosperous and European state.”
It’s hard believing anyone takes him seriously. His comments are buffoon-like. Facts on the ground are polar opposite his bluster.
He violated Minsk ceasefire terms straightaway. A state of war continues – conflict at a low ebb ahead of likely escalating at Washington’s discretion.
Poroshenko signed a revised military doctrine – absurdly calling Russia Ukraine’s enemy number one, number two and number three, claiming its main threat is a nonexistent “full-scale armed aggression of Russia against Ukraine with decisive military-political goals.”
Saying other threats include “the activity of illegal armed groups in Ukraine” – referring to Donbass freedom fighters rejecting illegitimate fascist rule, wanting them prevented from having democratic rights everyone deserves.
He wants them eliminated, using naked aggression to accomplish his objective, with full US support and encouragement. One fascist regime supports another.
He wants Russia stripped of its Security Council veto power, impossible without its willingness to relinquish a vital tool to check Washington’s imperial agenda – even though denying SC authorization doesn’t prevent its ongoing war on humanity.
Urging peacekeepers in Donbass is his thinly veiled scheme for Western occupation. Russia and area freedom fighters won’t tolerate it, nor should they.
Saying it’s a “useful instrument contributing to implementation of the Minsk agreement” belies his unwillingness to observe it.
Nothing in his address surprised. He heads a ruthless fascist regime, pretending to be democratic. Donbass has the real thing – Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) parliamentary elections scheduled for October 18 as stipulated under Minsk II.
DPR Prime Minister Alexander Zakharchenko said they’ll “take place ‘on the basis of Ukraine’s Law on temporary self-rule status of individual districts of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions’ in so far as they are not at variance with the constitution and laws of the DPR.”
The Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR) plans its parliamentary elections on November 1, following the same format as Donetsk.
Earlier, Poroshenko called them “extremely irresponsible and will have devastating consequences for the process of de-escalation of tension in certain areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.”
He insists they be cancelled. He wants Donbass residents denied democracy, fascist tyranny replacing it. He wants their legitimate rights undermined.
He wants attention on the world stage to bash Russia. Polls show he’s hugely unpopular. Ukrainians rate him poorly in all aspects of his job.
