Valuable haul: Police raided a storage facility and found $6.5 million in silver bullion, jewellery, cash and weapons.

THEY were so meticulous in pulling off their heists, the first some victims knew they had been robbed was when police returned their valuables.

Others, police say, still do not even realise they have been hit.

A father and son faced a Melbourne court yesterday after NSW Police uncovered a ”treasure trove” including $4 million in cash, a large amount of foreign currency, 120 kilograms of silver bullion and thousands of pieces of jewellery worth up to $6.5 million at a Sydney storage facility.

Police said thieves had broken into a storage facility in Ivanhoe and more than 100 homes and businesses on Sydney’s north shore, where they cleaned out the safes and left them looking like they were never there.

Acting Assistant Commissioner Mal Lanyon said a high level of planning went into the robberies, but refused to disclose the methodology used.

”We believe there may be a number of owners of both commercial and residential premises who are unaware that their safes have been tampered with and entered and that their property has been taken,” he said.

Police have started cataloguing the stolen items recovered in Wednesday’s raid, which also include hand guns, war medals and antiques, in the hope they can be returned to their owners.

Christopher See, 56, and Phillip See, 33, were each charged by Victorian police with one count of burglary and one count of theft in relation to a robbery at Kennards storage depot at Upper Heidelberg Road, Ivanhoe, between December 3 and December 10, where it is alleged they accessed 36 security boxes.

They were remanded until March 26, when they will face the same court again.
