PM’s policy director heads to IMF

A policy adviser to prime ministers Julia Gillard and Kevin Rudd will become the alternate executive director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) from November.

Cabinet appointed Ian Davidoff to the two-year position at its meeting on Monday evening.

He will assist the IMF’s executive director to represent Australia, Kiribati, Korea, Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Mongolia, New Zealand, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Seychelles, Solomon Islands, Tuvalu, Uzbekistan and Vanuatu.

Mr Davidoff has been director of policy in the prime minister’s office since 2009.

Before then he worked in Treasurer Wayne Swan’s office, the federal Treasury department and the Victorian Department of Premier and Cabinet.

Historically the Australian alternate executive director is nominated for the executive director position when it rotates to Australia after their term.
