Police are investigating a petrol bomb attack on a religious group in Melbourne.
They have been told up to five bottles containing flammable liquid were thrown at the Alevi Community Council of Australia centre in North Coburg overnight.
A side door and roof guttering was damaged by fire.
Surmeli Aydogan of the Alevi community says a disturbing note was also left on the centre’s fence.
She says the community is trying to make sense of what happened.
“[The note was] actually targeting anyone who is not Muslim and saying you either need to embrace Allah, you need to embrace Mohammed as his prophet and you need to come to that path you know the path of Allah. That’s all it was saying,” she said.
“Pretty shocked at the moment that something like this could happen in Australia.
“Pretty shaken up but at the same time it’s a bit silly, it’s a bit childish that’s what they’re feeling. How can something so childish happen?”
