Johann Peter Theodor Janssen (1844–1908) was a historical painter from Germany, best known for his realistic paintings of battle scenes. He was born in Düsseldorf to Theodor Janssen, an engraver who got him started in the arts. His brother Karl would become a famous sculptor. Peter Janssen became a professor at the Düsseldorf Academy in 1877 and became the director in 1895. He was also elected to b ea member of the Prussian Academy of Arts in 1885.
