Perth shock jock Sattler suffers strokes

Veteran shock jock Howard Sattler has suffered a series of strokes and will be off air for a few weeks, he confirmed on his Perth radio show.

Sattler, 67, said he was taking “therapeutic leave” for two weeks but could take more time off if he needed it.

“During the past few months it’s become evident I have been struggling with my speech,” he said on his Fairfax radio show.

Sattler said he thought initially he might have a throat problem but learned he had a nodule on his throat, which was not uncommon for people in his profession.

He said it was when he developed a slur, which worsened with tiredness in the afternoons that he learned he had had at least one stroke, and possibly a second.

“An MRI scan in the past fortnight confirmed this,” he said.

Sattler said callers had suggested he was drunk on air or may have suffered ill-effects from botox injections. He said both were untrue.

The drive-time radio host also took calls from listeners who wished him well and shared their own experiences of stroke.

Sattler also tweeted: “I have suffered a series of minor strokes. I need to take some time to recoup. Thanks for your support and I’ll be back in a few weeks.”
