Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, in a telephone conversation with the Qatari emir, says countries in the sensitive Persian Gulf region must act with prudence and farsightedness.
In a telephone conversation with Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani on Tuesday, the Iranian president stressed the importance of improving mutual relations to serve common interests.
He extended felicitations to the Qatari emir on the auspicious occasion of Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of the holy fasting month of Ramadan.
He said Iran pursues a “special and independent” approach to relations with Qatar and expressed hope that the two friend countries would further improve ties.
Rouhani also expressed the Islamic Republic’s keenness to boost amicable relations among Muslim countries.
“We hope to be able to replace non-political approaches with political solutions through brotherly cooperation among Muslim countries and Tehran is keen for good and brotherly ties with all Muslim states,” the Iranian president pointed out.
He stressed that all countries in the Middle East and across the world must pursue moderation and wisdom in their relations.

The Qatari emir, for his part, said the expansion of cooperation among Iran, Qatar and the Persian Gulf littoral states would serve mutual interests and spread peace and friendship in the region.
Thani added that there are bright and promising prospects for Tehran and Doha’s political, economic and cultural relations.
